How we got to Creative Pattern Making: “from mini to maxi”

At Vikileria Revive, our sewing workshop in Madrid, we’ve always believed that every stitch tells a story. That’s why this blog, Needle Stories, was born—a space to share everything we’ve learned in our sewing classes, our passion for fabrics, and our desire to teach in a different way.

For years we have searched for the best way to make pattern making accessible to our students. We tested systems, drew patterns, studied cutting and sewing techniques… Until we found our own path: a visual, creative and enjoyable method that makes the complex seem approachable.

Inspiration came to us from two unexpected places. On the one hand, the paintings of Kandinsky, with their universe of colors and geometric figures that seem to come alive. On the other, childhood memories of inventing paper dresses for our dolls, playing with scraps and fabrics. From this blend of art and play, our pattern-making system was born: a learning process through geometric shapes and color, which we have called “from Mini to Maxi.”

In our sewing classes and courses, this method has transformed the way we learn. It’s no longer just about following technical guidelines, but about visually understanding how a small shape can become a complete garment. A circle becomes a skirt, a triangle a neckline, a rectangle a sleeve. What once seemed complicated is now understood as a creative game full of possibilities.

Today, our sewing school in Madrid is a place where learning is a passion every day. Our students arrive eager to discover how to transform a piece of fabric into a unique garment, and we guide them step by step through the process. In each pattern-making course in Madrid, we show them how to combine technique with creativity, precision with imagination. Because we believe that pattern making isn’t just studied, it’s also experienced.

And amidst needles, thimbles, and meters of ribbon, our passion for fabrics also grows. In our club’s shop, we take care of every detail: we select spectacular fabrics and a beautiful haberdashery with pins, scissors, and accessories that inspire as much as they accompany you in the creative process. We want each project to begin with materials that excite you, because sewing also begins with the excitement of choosing something new.
